The legislation requires IDOT to conduct a traffic study following "the occurrence of any [crash] involving a pedestrian fatality that occurs at an intersection of a state highway."
In 2020, the pandemic resulted in a steep decline in pedestrian and bicycle fatalities and serious injuries in San Diego. Despite the decline in severe injuries and fatalities, harm to bicyclists and pedestrians remained high, with 27 bicycle and pedestrian fatalities and 58 serious injuries.
"In order to truly achieve Vision Zero, there need to be fewer single-occupancy vehicles on the road," concludes a new progress report from the Massachusetts Vision Zero Coalition.
